BVBH provides after-hours emergency services for all residents in our sixteen county area. Individuals may contact the emergency phone number to access on-call staff. Initial intervention and risk status will be completed over the phone. If further involvement is necessary, BVBH staff will contact a TASC Crisis Response Counselor to further address the needs of the individual.

A live, trained Crisis Counselor receives the text and responds, all from our secure online platform. The volunteer Crisis Counselor will help you move from a hot moment to a cool moment. The goal of any conversation is to get you to a calm, safe place. Sometimes that means providing you with a referral to further help, and sometimes it just means being there and listening. A conversation usually lasts anywhere from 15-45 minutes.

Trained operators screen calls to assess immediate safety needs, identify the potential level of a behavioral health crisis, make recommendations or referrals to appropriate resources, and help callers connect to emergency resources or providers. The Helpline is supervised by licensed mental health professionals. Family Helpline operators also can connect eligible families to the Family Navigator Service. This service helps families move through Nebraska's child- and family-care system more efficiently to get the assistance they need. Family Navigator helps families identify existing community-based services and provides support from people who have had personal experience in the system.

NILAH paralegals take the calls, complete the confidential intake screening forms, and refer people to the right organization in their area. The NILAH paralegals even have the ability to speak to callers in their native languages.
